Rapprochement Participates in a Seminar on Nonviolence in Jordan The Palestinian Centre for Rapprochement between People (PCR) took part in the first seminar of its kind on Nonviolent Resistance organized by Catalan organization NOVA.

The seminar which was held in Amman-Jordan joined for the first time at least 17 Arab trainers of nonviolence and leaders of nonviolent movements in their countries.

Trainers from Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq met to discuss the creation of a network for Arab Organizations involved in training and leading Nonviolent Activities in their countries. Representatives of NOVA and activists from Ganhdi Center in Italy and MAN in france were also present in the Seminar.

One of the goals of the seminar is to support the Middle East organizations involved in Nonviolent Resistance and activities.

The network will aim at trying to find support for the member organizations and to share training material and experience in this field.

PCR as a leading organization in nonviolence was invited by NOVA who promotes the role of civil society in solving conflicts. PCR was represented by its director George N. Rishmawi in the first session of the seminar which was held between October 29 – Nov 1, 2006.

Rishmawi presented a proposed structure for the network to the group to discuss and shared the long experience of the PCR in peace work and nonviolence which started in 1988, during the first Intifada.

The second session which will join more trainers and practitioners of nonviolence will end on November 4.
