Tuesday morning, November 27th, a gas mask distribution event is planned to take place at the school in Hares. Nov 9, 2001 Malicious Intimidation of Bereaved in Deir Istya

Following the execution of 3 Palestinians who had been taken prisoner near Nablus on Wednesday 7 November, the villagers of Deir Istya, as is customary, sat vigil for their dead. Yesterday, in a direct act of provocation and intimidation, Israeli troops in 1 army jeep entered the village. The soldiers proceeded to the area in the village where the mourners were gathered. Singling out one young man, the soldiers demanded that he get up onto their jeep. The villagers told him not to do so, and he refused. The soldiers then pointed their weapons at his head and repeated their demand. He still refused. A stand off ensued, which lasted for approximately 15 minutes before the soldiers returned to their vehicle and left the village. These are deliberately malicious acts to mock and torment people who are already in a very sensitive and vulnerable state of mind, and the intimidation is designed to increase terror and incite reaction.

Nov 9, 2001 Dier Istiya and Neighboring Villages Under Siege

The villages of Deir Istiya, Kefal, Hares and Kiri's only remaining entrances were closed to anyone one wanting to leave this morning. All but one entrance had been sealed off with cement blocks and dirt for months now. Today dozens of people, mainly those on their way to work, were stopped by soldiers and made to stand in a queue at the village entrance for hours. At noon they were released but not allowed to exit the village. It seems that this is the Israeli occupation forces response after three residents of Deir Istiya were killed yesterday following a gun battle between Israeli troops and Palestinians.
