Sept 20, 2001 Ethnic cleansing at South Hebron Hills

On the night of September 18th, the Israeli occupation forces demolished Palestinian shepherds' cave dwellings, near the settlement of Suseya, at South Hebron Hills. The IDF also sealed in the water cisterns, the only source of water for the residents. This is the latest occurrence in a series of ongoing attacks on the Palestinians shepherds dwelling in the area, aimed at forcing them out of the area. In this area - the Yatta region - are a number of farmer and shepherds villages whose residents dwell in caves and shacks. The Civil Administration together with the I.O.F. are actually attempting to perform an ethnic cleansing of the area, by systematically destroying dwellings and water resources of the local population. Any humanitarian aide received by the shepherds families is demolished or confiscated by the occupation authorities. For more information CPT Tel. 02-2228485 or 052-323757 cptheb@palnet.com

Sept 14, 2001 Settlers destroy fields in Ras Jabal

Two days ago settlers bulldozed and completely destroyed vegetable fields on non-confiscated land in Ras Jabal, south of Yata, near Hebron. After bulldozing the plants they dug a big hole in the ground and filled it up with iron and cement to make a base for new caravans. Local Palestinians called the Israeli police but there was no reaction from the police. Nobody showed up. Today, in the morning, the owner of the land and local Palestinian villagers met near the fields to demonstrate against the destruction of their property and against the putting up of new caravans on their land. After a short while Israeli police came and took away the ID cards of the peaceful Palestinian demonstrators, including those of Palestinians from the civil administration. The IDF declared the area a closed military zone and arrested Moussa Mahamri from the Land Defence Committee in Hebron. One of the settlers claimed to have been threatened by Mr. Mahamri. The IDF took Mr. Mahamri to Kiryat Arba'a. For further information contact: Yasmin Khayal 054-837457
